John Horne Obituary
A native of Newport News, he was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation and was a former employee of the Newport News Shipyard. Buster was a longtime NASCAR fan who raced stockcars from 1961 through the 1970s at the "Dude Ranch" now known as Langley Speedway.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Betty Mason Horne; his son, John R. "Buster" Horne, Jr., and wife, Jennifer of Williamsburg; sister, Mary Prevatte and husband, Gary, of Zuni; brother, Ervin Horne and wife, Mary, of Winchester; two grandchildren, Evan and Taylor Horne; two nieces, Marlene Skinner and Lori Ann Horne.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Lori Horne and Mary Pauline Jones Horne Orebaugh and his stepfather, Randolph Orebaugh.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. www.wrightfuneralhome.org

We are still getting over the shock. We love all of you very much and we will miss Buster. One of our fondest memories is the last visit when we went to the racetrack with you, Buster, Evan,and Buster, Jr. He was a beloved Brother and will remain in our hearts forever. Buster, you are such a special man to me. You have touched so many lives in so many ways. I will never forget how you always had to tell me about how I used to scream and run away when you would walk into the room and how much I loved the "duke" car that you gave to me.
