Shelia and boys,
We have been on out of town and We are sorry for your loss. Joe was always the heart of our working group in the laboratory and he leaves all of us with a lot of wonderful memories. I know first hand some of the struggles you an the boys went through and your dedication is to be admired. He will be missed and we will remember the good times.

Sheila and boys,
I was so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I know you worked hard these last few years taking care of your family. The mention of Joe's name almost always brought a smile to our faces as we remembered the antics, his jovial personality, and his obsession with catching a citation flounder. I worked around him for almost 40 years but we worked side by side for 10 years. I laughed when I read Petes comment about being "suckered" to take on the project. Everyone always said he was the best Huck Finn because he could get us to "whitewash the fence". I enjoyed working with Joe and fishing with him on occasion (I've also bought a lot of fish from him). I have many good memories and I will miss him.

Sheila, Bret, Bryan and Joe (Toot)
I am deeply saddened to hear or your loss.
I was honored to be a friend of Joe for more than 40+ years during the time we worked together at NNS. Joe, Toot Jack Byrun, Curtis and I had some good times at the OBX fishing and enjoying each others friendship.
Joe had a special knack at work when he had a little project to do. He would come down to our work area to start the project then appear to have difficulty doing it, before you could think about what was happening Jack or I would become
involved at which time Joe would step back and let you run with it all the while just grinning just knowing he just got you. Joe will surely be missed.
Please accept my condolences,
Toby Thompson

My sincere condolences for the family of a great man who loved his wife and boys. He was a 'baseball guy' and I was fortunate to have him around for 4 years. We shared a lot of laughs and a very memorable trip to Baltimore. I will always cherish that sparkle in his eyes as he was preparing to say or do something that would yank someone's chain.

Sheila, Bret, Bryan and Joe (Toot; I share your loss, Joe was a great man and a good friend. I have many memories of him and was sometimes on the receiving end of his antics, other times helped him with them. I remember the 53 Roadmaster, the 63 Special ("turn the page Joe") and a few others. Joe is the reason I ended up back at NNS in the lab again. I will miss seeing him, but will always remember him!

Sheila, Bret, Bryan and Joe (Toot): I share in your loss of Big Joe. He was a wonderful man. I enjoyed his sense of humor, jokes and his mischievous smile and laughs. He was always "stirring the pot"~after he retired, he made a point to be on the porch every morning and would wave to me when I stopped by Honey's for coffee, then he would wave and tell me to have a good as I was leaving for work. I have missed that greatly, then Bryan and I started passing in the mornings and he waves, thank you Bryan for that sweet reminder of your dad. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
