Ronald Morris Obituary

Ronald Hollis Morris

September 24, 1935 - August 8, 2024

Ronald Hollis Morris, 88, of Stanardsville, died peacefully at Rosewood Village Assisted Living, Charlottesville, VA.

Born on September 24, 1935, he was the beloved firstborn of George Alex Morris and Ethel Jane Shifflett Morris. Married 67 years to his high school sweetheart, the former Audrey Powell, they became parents of four wonderful children, Yvonne Morris (Maurynne), Jennifer Morris Reed (Nathaniel), Ronald "Nathan" Morris (Melody) and Chadwick Troy Morris; seven, adored grandchildren, Lauren Brooke Dunn (Lyndsey), Madelyn White Delp (Mark), Layla Grace Morris, Peyton "Brody" Morris, Charlie Bay Morris, Nathaniel Reed III, and Eleanor Reed. Also, there are four delightful, wonderful, and adored great-grandchildren, Liam, Atha, Eastyn, and Isla.

He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn Harlow and Janice Grimsby of Ruckersville,VA.; and sister-in-law Elizabeth "Liz" Morris of Stanardsville; brothers-in-law, Larry Powell (Emogene) of Stanardsville, Norris Powell of Zuni, VA, Calvin Powell (Charlotte), Griffin Powell (Lillian), Merril Powell (Mary Ann) of Stanardsville; sisters–in–law, Patty Baugher and Joann Powell of Stanardsville and Janie Austin of Staatsburg, NY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mavis Vernell Collins; and brother, Bobby Gene Morris; brothers-in-law, Jake Harlow, Samuel Grimsby, W.L. Baugher, Norman Powell, and Harold Austin; sister-in-law, Wilma Powell; son-in-law, Michael White; and niece, Kristie Powell Shifflett.

A member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, he was raised in Evergreen Church of the Brethren, where, as a teenager, he proudly helped haul the rocks to build that church. A warrior for Christ his entire life, he rarely missed an opportunity to share The Word with strangers or friends. His message was simple but powerful. "God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, into this world to teach us how to live, and He paid for our sins by dying on the Cross so that we can be saved from our sins into eternal life. All we have to do is Believe and be Obedient to The Word, the Bible."

Ron was an Engineer for Sperry for more than 35 years, but his first love was farming. He loved his cows, his tractor, and being in the great outdoors surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition, he served his community as a member of the Planning Commission, The Greene County School Board, the Board of Directors for The Bank of Greene, President of PTA, President of William Monroe Athletic Boosters (when the first lights were put on the football field) Little League Baseball Coach, and much more. He always found time to be involved in the community.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Rosewood Village Assisted Living and Trinity Hospice for their kind and superb care of him these past 10 months. He missed his home, but he was a man who bloomed where he was planted. We are forever grateful for the friendships we made while he was a resident there.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. with Pastors Lyndsey Dunn of Cliffview Church of God, Galax, Va., and Pastor Richard Dunn of Meadowood Church of God, Richmond, Va., officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.

We have set up an online guestbook at www.battenfuneral.com for those who wish to share their memories of Ron or express their condolences. Your words will be a source of comfort and strength for the family during this time.

Hi, my name is Angela. I am the daughter of Ms. Elaine who currently resides at Rosewood on the 3rd floor. I would like to extend my condolences to the family. Even though I did not know Ron very well, I could tell from my conversations with him what a gentle and caring soul he was. He had a way of making those around him feel truly cared about. I will keep the family in my prayers and be happy that I had the opportunity to know him.

Our deepest sympathy to the family, I met Ronald many years ago when we worked together at Sperry Marine, he always had a sweet smile and the most gentle demeanor about him. Always so soft spoken and he was a true friend to all. May God´s love and blessing comfort you until we meet again.
