Alice Martin Shiflett

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Martin Shiflett, 78, of Charlottesville. She passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 20, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her presence will be deeply missed. Born in Charlottesville on November 5,1946, she was the daughter of the late Sterling Martin and Alice L. Martin. She was preceded in death by her brother Clarence Martin, and sisters Ernestine Wood, and Peggy Cope.

Alice was a loving mother and grandmother. She was known for her deep faith, her love of gardening and floral design, and her joy in celebrating holidays with her family. She was active in her church community and cherished opportunities to share her faith with others.

Alice worked as a beautician for 30 years and worked for Albemarle County Transportation Department.

She is survived by her son, Robert "Bobby" Shiflett II, his wife, Holly, and their daughter, Allison Shiflett, all of Amherst, Va.; her brother, Sterlon L. Martin, and his partner, Mary Anderson of Madison, Va.; and several nieces and nephews: Steven Wood of Buena Vista, Va.; Sandra Mitchem and her husband, Barry, of Salisbury, N.C.; Kim Shiflett Kidd and her husband, Roy, of Scottsville, Va.; Tim Shiflett and his wife, Angela, of Fluvanna, Va.; Denise Shiflett Morris and her husband, David, of Scottsville, Va.; and Wendy Garrison of Greene County, Va.

Family night will be held on Wednesday, July 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hill and Wood Greene Chapel in Ruckersville, Va. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Park Street in Charlottesville, with Dr. Joel Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
