Amy Kite Obituary

Amy Lea Kite, of Charlottesville, passed away November 14 at the age of 59. She is survived by her son Theo, 27, of Chicago, Illinois, and daughter Delilah, 23, of Richmond.

Born November 7, 1964, Amy always considered the Charlottesville area home. The daughter of Linda Vaughan and Ronnie Kite, sister of Ronald and Ronda, she grew up in Ivy, attending Meriwether Lewis Elementary School, Henley Middle School, and Western Albemarle High School. She spent her college years at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, obtaining both bachelor's and master's degrees in social work. During her time in Richmond, she met and married Thomas Trotter, and, after a period in Austin, Texas, the couple settled in Free Union where they raised their two children. Though the couple divorced in 2021, they remained friends, grateful for the time they had spent together and the wondrous children they were blessed with.

Amy possessed a gentle nature and an empathic heart that held a place for everyone in her life: family, friends, stray animals, all were welcome. Her loyalty was boundless. She was a true friend who loved helping others. She was a trusted confidante, never judgmental, always ready to celebrate others' successes and encourage them along the way.

Her kindness and loyalty extended to her work. She was a helper at heart, and her clients knew they had a true ally in their corner. Amy was a licensed clinical therapist, providing group, family, and individual therapy for clients with a vast array of mental health and substance abuse issues. In addition, Amy especially loved mentoring those new to social work and took joy in seeing them grow in their work. Her caring spirit lives on in those who carry her work forward, learning from her wisdom and warmth.

But the most important part of Amy's life were her children, Delilah and Theo. She was immensely proud of their accomplishments and always gave them all of her love, striving to make their lives better than her own had been.

A celebration of Amy's life is being planned for early next year with details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Sexual Assault Resource Agency of Charlottesville.
