Calvin Mallory Obituary

Calvin Guy Mallory

May 4, 1965 - May 8, 2021

Calvin Guy Mallory gained his heavenly angel wings on Saturday, May 8, 2021 alongside his loving mother. Calvin was born May 4, 1965 in Charlottesville, Va. to Severa B. Mallory and to the late Allen Massie. In his early teens he was a champion boxer and a graduate of Charlottesville High School Class of 1983. Calvin enjoyed being loved and spoiled by many. He was a Food Service employee at the University of Virginia Cafeteria, a part time helper of the Selinger Family of Keswick, Va. and a faithful volunteer for the Salvation Army for many years.

Calvin leaves to cherish his mother, Severa B. Mallory of Charlottesville, Va.; grandmother, Barbra Massie of Stanardsville, Va.; four brothers; Robert Mallory (Francine), James Mallory, Stephen Mallory, all from Charlottesville, Va., Quinton Brock (Lorraine) of Orange County, Va.; three devoted sisters from Charlottesville, Va.; Annie Brown (Irvin), Connie Mallory and Rita Mallory-Banks (Robert) and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the Albemarle County Fire and Rescue for their efforts and the many friends and families for their prayers and words of encouragement.

Hill and Wood of Charlottesville, Va. will be in charge of the arrangements. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 6 until 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Holly Memorial Gardens, Route 29N on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11 a.m. The Dr. Harrison Williams of Shiloh Baptist Church will officiate. Due to Covid-19, the family requests that all in attendance wear a mask for each service.

Sadly, I just learned of my dear friend's death. I tutored Calvin through Literacy Volunteers for over a year and I can honestly say he was the most dedicated and hard-working student I ever had. Calvin's reading improved immensely during that time and it was a reflection on his determination. We continued to work together for some time after he completed the program with LVCA and I always looked forward to our time together. He had a real thirst for history and for learning. Once our tutoring days were over, Calvin never failed to call me at least once a month. I looked forward to hearing from him and hearing about his job at UVA. He always ended his conversation with "Thank you for all you did for me and I love you Miss Janet." I love you too Calvin -- you did a lot for me too.

Calvin was a dear friend to me and my little brother throughout the years since meeting him in my Prospect days. I've never met such a caring, trustworthy, respectful and genuinely good man.

I moved away a few years ago and hadn't seen him in forever but that never stopped him from calling to check on me every month. He never missed an opportunity to tell me how proud he was of me before hanging up. I hope he knows how much it meant to hear him say that. We really watched each grow these past 20 or so years. I'm so glad I was able to talk to my buddy the Saturday before his passing, my only regret is that we never got that dinner we said we would make happen. I will miss seeing his moms number pop up on my caller ID and hearing his voice "Hey Tash" on the end.

My warmest sympathies go out to Calvin's family. What a bright light and warm presence we will all miss!

Calvin, my adopted Lil brother from the neighborhood.
Thank God I got the opportunity to tell you how proud I am of you. A loving, kind and respectful young man that stood out from the rest. One who always had a kind word and was always willing to help in any way that he could . Always picked up the phone or stop by. He´d always say (with a great big sincere smile). "Just stopped by or called to check on you. Need me to do anything for you?" Brings tears to my eyes to know you´re gone but in my heart I know God makes No mistakes. If I could write a book on "how to love your neighbor". Aside from God, you would be my main character. Your life´s display of Love would be a perfect example for all to learn from. You are an Angel from God.
RIP Cal
My condolences to the beautiful family, May God grant you comfort peace that surpasses all understanding.

Calvin worked at UVA with my step mom and my father. He also worked at McDonald´s with me. Calvin was the most nicest, sweetest, dedicated person you could ever meet. I just seen him not long ago at uva and we was talking about my new daughter and how my kids were doing. He always asked how my step mom was. Whenever I saw him he always had that smile on his face. Calvin you will be truly missed my friend and I hope you brighten heaven up more with your smile.
