Cole Digges Obituary

Cole Edward Digges III, 86, of Troy, Virginia, passed away on April 24, 2023. He was born on June 22, 1936 in Charlottesville, Virginia, to the late Cole E. Digges Jr. and Gladys (Quann) Digges.

Cole is survived by his son, Duane Digges and wife Sherrie of Palmyra, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Cindy, of Gordonsville; granddaughters, Lauren Belew and husband Derek of Gordonsville, Virginia, Cari Squire and husband Kellen of Barboursville, Virginia, and Cole Digges V and Ashley of Troy, Virginia; and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Austin, Henley, Mason, Sutton, Sawyer, Andrew, and Connor. He was predeceased by his son, Cole (Eddie) Digges IV and wife of 65 years, Margaret (Haislip) Digges.

Born at "the old Martha Jefferson Hospital", Cole grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. As a boy, he loved to hunt snakes in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He was drafted into the US Army and, after attending the US Army Southeastern Signal School, worked as a cryptologist in the 97th Signal Intelligence Battalion at 7th Army Headquarters in Germany. Cole spent many years working as a store manager for Sears in Charlottesville. Cole was an avid craftsman, raised Brahma bulls, and a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones.

A service will be held in memory of Cole on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bugles Across America. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Louisa County Fire Department, the nurses and doctors of Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital ER, Cornell 2, and infusion center, and the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont for their compassionate care during Cole's final days.

Cole will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

I worked with Cole at Sears when I was in Advertising and he was in Display. We became friends and although we lost contact I have never forgotten him. He was a wonderful man and I am sorry to read of his passing. Condolences to all his family.
