George Jay Flanagan

August 10, 1953 - December 28, 2024

George Jay Flanagan, age 71, of Charlottesville, VA passed away on December 28, 2024 of complication from chronic pulmonary disease.

Jay spent his high school years living on Cape Cod with his parents, George and Eugenia Flanagan, and his older brother, Robert. Jay attended the University of Massachusetts, earning an MBA specializing in Labor Relations. He served as a labor mediator with the US Department of Labor from 1979 until his retirement in 2009, living in Falls Church, VA. He married Kay Patterson in 1981 and his son, Robert, was born in 1089.

Jay enjoyed playing baseball and riding his bicycle to work from Falls Church to Capitol Hill. He was an avid reader. He was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Grateful Dead. Jay and Kay moved to Charlottesville in 2009. For 14 years worked part-time with the UVA security group RMC and volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. He was a kind and thoughtful man, and he will be missed.

We were blessed to have Jay in our lives. His dedication to causes we held dear was an example to us and everyone who knew him to steady the course and persist in "making good trouble". And just to smile...you hit a grand slam homer .
