Jeremy Reed Obituary

Jeremy Keith Reed, 55, of Charlottesville, passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2023, while at work. Jeremy was born on October 19, 1967 to Joseph W. Reed and Margaret A. Reed in Charlottesville, Virginia. After graduating from Albemarle High School, he went on to work for Sperry Marine, now Northrup Grummond, where he continued to work until his passing.

Jeremy had been a volunteer firefighter for the Charlottesville Fire Department since 1995 until present, and had achieved the rank of Lieutenant. He also volunteered for the Earlysville Fire Department from 2003-2009. Jeremy had a passion for collecting World War II, military memorabilia, and was an avid history buff. He shared this passion with his best friend, Mike Chisholm.

Jeremy was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his mother, Margaret Ann Reed. He is survived by his father, Wally Reed, brother, Joey Reed, and nephews, Jonathan and Luke Reed.

No services are planned at this time, but a memorial service will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Charlottesville/Albemarle SPCA, an organization he felt strongly about.

Jerry was a great friend, I will miss him stopping into Tobey's Pawn almost every other day to see what we had, I will miss our jokes and most of all his stories and smile.

I'm so sad to learn this news. I met Jerry in the late 90s while volunteering with CFD. We became fast friends and stayed in touch over the years.
We had planned to get together on my next trip to VA. I was so excited to share with him how my son just graduated from the fire academy.
I'll miss you & your friendship, Jerry.

Jerry Reed, my mentor upon my return to work after a work force reduction in 2012. I had known Jerry for most of my Career with Sperry and then Northrop Grumman. Jerry was always quick with a witty response to make you feel better. He could not be disliked. I was shocked with everyone else with the sad and terrible news of Jerry's passing. I shared the enthusiasm he had for the Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and marveled at his knowledge of military memorabilia, and his collections. I thank the members of the Fire and Rescue team that was there for Jerry, as well as the Northrop Grumman Employees that aided in his time of need. My deepest Condolences to his family, especially Jerry's Dad who I asked about often. Thank-you very much to Jerry's brother, who has taken on the task of Jerry's affairs, and responsibilities.
Best regards,
Dave Maxwell
