Kim Tobias Obituary

Kim Tobias

August 1, 1956 - October 31, 2024

Kim "Bunny" Tobias was born on August 1, 1956, in Alliance, Ohio to Jim and Dotte Brush. She earned a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and a master's degree in journalism from Iowa State University.

Kim was a disciplined and hard worker, who had a very successful career as an executive recruiter. During her working years she lived in Florida, California, and New Mexico, before settling in Charlottesville over 20 years ago.

Kim was the central core of a huge community in Charlottesville. Over the years, her home, Hollycrest, was the site of countless gatherings. From holiday parties, Fall bonfires, fundraisers, rallying the women for UVA sports, to intimate test kitchens, where they created the most wonderful meals imaginable. All of these women formed a bond due to Kim's never tiring spirit, and her love and friendship for all of them. She will be remembered by her friends and family as a kind, happy, fun, creative, generous, and vibrant person.

Kim also enjoyed visiting area wineries, various art museums, attending concerts, studying astronomy and composing poetry.

Kim always loved having a big dog!!!!! First Raleigh, then Tessie, and finally Sophia. Over the years, they were her constant companions. Traveling with her on the road to Maryland, and to her hometown in Ohio, her four-legged babies were usually always by her side.

Kim's untimely passing will leave a giant hole in so many hearts. Her love and compassion for her friends will always be remembered by all of us that loved her so much.

Kim is survived by her partner Diane Hinkle of Mechanicsville, MD; two brothers Bo (JoEllen) Brush of North Canton, Ohio and Kelly (Judi) Brush of Alliance, Ohio; five nieces and nephews Lindsay Rickets, Jaime Valdez, Christoper Brush, Andrew Brush, Scott Brush; six great nieces and nephews; her former husband Alan Tobias of Taos, New Mexico, as well as countless friends locally and across the country.

A service celebrating Kim's life will be held on November 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Unity of Charlottesville, 2825 Hydraulic Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22901. All are welcome.
