Lynda Johnson Obituary

Lynda Fain Johnson, 91, of Midlothian, Va., passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022, after a long bout with Parkinson’s disease.

She is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck Johnson, of nearly 69 years. They met while both were undergraduates at Syracuse University. Graduating a year ahead of Chuck, Lynda worked for New York State Cooperative Extension, before they were married in August 1953. Lynda continued to work while Chuck was in graduate school, until shortly before she gave birth to her first daughter, Danna, in 1956.

In 1957 the family moved to Pittsburgh, where two more daughters, Caryl and Cynthia, were born. After four years there, the family moved back to the Syracuse area living in the beautiful village of Cazenovia. All three daughters graduated from Cazenovia High School and went on to college and graduated school and have very successful careers. Danna became an M.D, Caryl, an Aeronautical Engineer and Cynthia a CPA. They all credit their mom with encouraging their lifetime success. Lynda and Chuck then moved to the Washington, D.C. area, where Lynda resumed her career as a Program Manager with AARP and later as a convention manager with the National American Wholesale Grocers Association.

In retirement, the couple moved to Lake Monticello, near Charlottesville, Va. Lynda took up golf, bridge and other activities. She finally had time to complete her family genealogy, a longtime ambition. In 2017, it was time to downsize. After a lengthy search, they settled on Brandermill Woods, a continuing care facility, located in the Richmond area. This choice was based in part on proximity to daughter Danna, who along with her husband, John Summerville, was serving as pathologist at a local hospital. In addition to her daughters, Lynda is survived by five grandchildren. Granddaughter Julie has presented us with two great-grandchildren, who unfortunately for us live far away in San Jose, Calif.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Brandermill Woods Retirement Center, 2100 Brandermill Pkwy, Midlothian, VA 23112.
