Matthew Spector Obituary

Matthew "Matt" Spector

Matt, age 48, passed away peacefully at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia, on July 12, 2021. Matt was the beloved son of Jerome "Jerry" and Arlene Spector; brother of Stacia (Clay) Kaufman and Jennifer (Jeff) Nicholson; and uncle to Ella and Emma Kaufman and Brayden and Dylan Nicholson.

Born in St. louis, Matt graduated from Parkway Central High School in 1991 and received an associate degree from Forest Park Junior College. After attending a fine arts program in Florence, Italy during his junior year, he returned to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

After graduating from college, and based on his lifelong interest in computer technology, Matt joined the Philosophy Documentation Center at Bowling Green State University. When the Documentation Center moved to the University of Virginia in 2001, Matt moved with the company. In 2003, Matt accepted a position with OFM Computer Systems, Inc. in Charlottesville as a Computer Technician, and was promoted to Technical Support Manager in 2016.

In addition to helping people with their IT issues, Matt enjoyed reading, painting, listening to music, playing his guitar (he was terrific), and spending time with his friends and family who particularly appreciated his wonderful sense of humor. There is no question that he will be sorely missed by everyone.

Contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, P.O Box 937, Verona, VA 24482-0937 or a charity of your choice.

I went to Art School with Matt in Florence. He was a friend and I was sad to look up all these years later to see this. Matt was a large force and fun to hang out with.

I was so shocked to hear about Matt's death. What a loss!
He was always so helpful and smart and fun to work with when I would call in with a computer problem. I will really miss him as I'm sure will OFM and all of their other clients.
