Ollie Shiflett Obituary

Ollie Perry "O.P." Shiflett, 97, of Ruckersville, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2006, at Evergreene Nursing Home in Stanardsville.

He was born and raised in Nimrod and spent the majority of his life creating a better community and future for his family and other Greene County citizens. Most notably are the legacies that he leaves in co-founding the Ruckersville Volunteer Fire Department, working as Trustee for the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, creating the Wild Wood Valley Subdivision, working the Long Acre Poultry and Cattle Farm, and operating the Circle Inn Motel and Restaurant.

Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was the ninth child of 12 born to the late William George Shiflett and Laura Belle Morris of Nimrod, on October 17, 1909.

He is survived by two sons, Randolph Perry Shiflett and his wife, Lorene, of Ruckersville and Francis Arnold Shiflett and his wife, Mae, of Stanardsville; one daughter, Bonny Kay and her husband, Benjamin Greenbaum of Richmond; two sisters, Beulah C. Crane of Scarsdale, New York and Lola Fay Morris of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, Cindy Lee, Kathy Watson, Jody and Jamie Shiflett and Joshua and Noah Greenbaum; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving and supportive wife, the former Elsie Mae Shiflett, whom he married on July 12, 1933; six brothers, Russell W. Shiflett, E. Pat Shiflett, George H. Shiflett, James L. Shiflett, Raleigh Shiflett, and Floyd E. Shiflett; and three sisters, Millie M. Knight, Mamie B. Shiflett and Katherine B. Frazier.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, with the Reverend Dawn Lare officiating. A private family burial will be held at Holly Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Rd., Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903 or the Ruckersville V.F.D. in honorarium.

My prayers are with the family. I will miss my visits with OP at the nursing home. He always spoke of Ellie and missed her. My frist job was waiting tables for OP and Elsie when I was around 13. They were both such fun and wonderful people.
