Randolph Shiflett Obituary

Born October 15, 1918, in Albemarle County, Randolph Brandon Shiflett "Big Daddy" was the son of the late Philip Howard Shiflett and Mary Elizabeth Branham Shiflett.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marion Payne Shiflett; a brother, Grafton Ennis Shiflett; and a sister, Juanita Shiflett.

Mr. Shiflett was a retired locomotive engineer for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. He served with I Company, 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division in Europe during World War II. He earned the combat infantry badge, the good conduct medal, and three battle stars including the bronze star.

Surviving are his son, Dr. Reginald B. Shiflett and his wife, Karin, of Cary, North Carolina; a daughter, Linda M. Wilberger, and her husband, Dorsey "Butch" Wilberger, of Charlottesville. Big Daddy took great pride in the fact that all six grandchildren and spouses are college graduates; Dr. Mark B. Shiflett, and his wife, Lori, of Wilmington, Delaware, Dr. Kimberly S. Fullenwider, and her husband, Greg, of Huntersville, North Carolina, Andrew Shiflett and his wife, Danyell, of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brian Wilberger and his wife, Robin, of Palmyra, Jeffrey Wilberger and his wife, Katina, of Arlington, and Kevin Wilberger of Charlottesville; five great-granddaughters, Ruby Emma Fullenwider, Meredith Sue Fullenwider, Dori Elizabeth Wilberger, Bailey Beverly Wilberger, and Abigail Helen Shiflett; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Belmont Baptist Church, with the Reverend Greg Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, September 3, 2007, at Belmont Baptist Church.

Donations may be made to JAHH Corp, a family non-profit missionary organization, 728 Monticello Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

Hill and Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
