Richard McIninch Obituary

Richard Donald McIninch

June 9, 1940 - June 29, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Donald "Dick" McIninch, who left this world peacefully on June 29, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on June 9, 1940, in Manchester, New Hampshire, Richard was the son of Ralph and Elizabeth McIninch. He lived a remarkable life that touched the hearts of many, and his legacy will continue to resonate through the lives of those he loved.

Richard's journey began in the city of Manchester, where he grew up surrounded by the love of his parents. He was graduated from Holderness School in Plymouth, New Hampshire. His educational pursuits led him to Syracuse University, where he completed his undergraduate degree, followed by a master's degree from Central Michigan University. His thirst for knowledge and commitment to education laid a strong foundation for a successful career in the Department of Defense.

On September 29, 1973, Richard wed Joyce Cummings Pennington, in a beautiful candlelight ceremony at Camp Springs United Methodist Church. Their marriage, which spanned 51 wonderful years, was a testament to love, partnership, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they raised a loving family, including their beloved sons, Richard Pennington and Stephen McIninch, and welcomed Angela McIninch, Stephen's devoted wife, into their family fold.

Richard was a proud grandfather to Blake Worley, Cameron, Caitlyn, and Chloe, as well as to Taylor McIninch, and he found immense joy in their ongoing achievements. He delighted in sharing his passions and interests with them, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

An adventurous spirit and a creative mind defined Richard's character. He was determined, ambitious, and hard-working, traits that earned him respect from colleagues and friends alike. Richard had a profound love for antique cars, and his passion extended to photography, fly fishing, painting, and skiing which took him to various and sundry places around the world. Richard was also an active member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Auto Appraisal Group, where he connected with fellow enthusiasts who shared his love for classic vehicles. His dedication to these communities reflected his deep appreciation for history and craftsmanship.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ralph and Elizabeth McIninch and his beloved brother, Doug McIninch and sister-in-law Nancy Meehan McIninch and his son, Richard A. Pennington, II.

A funeral service to honor Richard's life will be held on August 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Greenwood, Virginia. Friends and family are welcome to join in a celebration of life for this beloved man. Following the service will be a reception in the Parish Hall.

Richard Donald McIninch will be deeply missed by his wife Joyce, son Stephen, daughter-in-law Angela, grandchildren Blake, Cameron, Caitlyn, Chloe, and Taylor, and nieces Laura McIninch Paryl and Erica McIninch Comey and countless friends and relatives. His spirit, creativity, and adventurous heart will forever remain in our hearts.
