Robert Sullivan Obituary

Robert Bruce Sullivan of NuArk Farm, Albemarle County, Virginia, died at home Wednesday, January, 23, 2008.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Virginia McClenny Sullivan; one son, Robert Bruce Sullivan Jr., and his wife, Leslie Bradford Sullivan; three grandchildren, Robert McClenny Sullivan, Elizabeth Bradford Sullivan and Laura Clements Sullivan, all of Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Luther Lowry Sullivan.

Born May 11, 1923, in Helena, Arkansas, the son of Christine Lowry Sullivan and Luther Henderson Sullivan, he was reared in Helena and entered the University of Virginia in 1941.commissioned from the University of Virginia's Naval ROTC unit on February 28, 1944, he served the latter part of World War II in the Pacific with billets of Executive Officer and later Commanding Officer of an LCI (L). Returning to the University of Virginia after the war, he received a B.S. in commerce in 1947, and at that time entered the insurance business in which he was engaged in Charlottesville and Roanoke until the time of his retirement in 1982.

He was a past president of the Roanoke CLU Association, Roanoke Estate Planning Council and the Estate Planning Council of Central Virginia. Other past or current memberships include Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, the Shenandoah Club of Roanoke, Farmington Country Club and Tri-County Riding Club.

He was a member and former vestryman of Christ Episcopal Church, Charlottesville, where a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 26, 2008, with the Reverend Jeffrey Palmer Fishwick officiating.

Interment of ashes in the University Cemetery will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 100 W. Jefferson Street, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902 or to a charity of one's choice.

Dear Ginny and Bruce,
Bob and I were fortunate to have more than a doctor-patient relationship. It was much closer than that. We understood each other to our mutual benefit. Each one-on-one visit in the office left us both better off. Rare indeed. I pray that God will comfort you now and always. Love, Lewis
