Your tenderness and consideration of Bernard's choices allowed his passing to be as easy as it could be.Bernard had many gifts and talents, Physical Therapist for over 60 years, Outsider Artist, author, and entertainer. He enjoyed several appearances on the Steve Allen Show in the in 1960's as Cheyanne Schatz, the one man band. He he had a wry wit and everything in his life was "part of the show".In the many hours spent with Bernard in his final days, the rapier wit was still there, the little smile that told me he was enjoying the show, even to the end. He shared stories and memories, both good and bad. Bernard was ready to go to the next world and all of us that knew him wish him peace and much love. He recounted his time in the Navy during the Korean War, "I went to Basic Training and after 2 weeks, found that I didn't enjoy the work, so I left." The Navy never contacted him again. In Bernard's last hours of consciousness, he repeated in dramatic fashion, "I'm a goin...I'm a goin fast", and then asked me "how did that sound?", while smiling at me with those gorgeous blue eyes.My Bernardo, my dear friend. You drove me to distraction and I love you and I miss you.
