Shirley Ann Reynolds, 79, of Orange, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 3, 2015.Shirley is survived by her daughter, Debbie R. Kerley of Orange; a grandson, Paul Thomas Kerley of Orange; a great-granddaughter, Adaisha Kenzie Kerley; and three special nieces, Lynn Evans and husband, Billy, of Chester, Va., Terry Bush and husband, William, of King William, Va., and Vicki Bruce and husband, Wayne Knight. She was born in Orange County, January 21, 1936 to Estus and Sylvia Smith. Her sister, Margaret was 7 years older. Shirley attended Orange County schools, and her class was the first class to graduate from the newly built Orange County High School. She had a strong work ethic and she retired from 2 businesses in Orange County, Virginia Metal Products and Ridgid Kollmann. She formed many special friendships over the years. After retiring from Ridgid, she became a member of the "monthly lunch club" where retirees would get together for lunch and fellowship. Her family and faith were very important to her. She was a member of the Orange Baptist Church. Before becoming ill, she enjoyed her outings with the "Happy Agers" at Orange Baptist Church. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in October of 2012, and was given approximately a year to live. Thankfully she surpassed this estimate and lived almost 3 years longer. Mom exhibited courage and strength during this difficult time and amazed not only her family, but her doctors and caregivers. The family would like to express their gratitude to the following caring and competant medical staff, Dr. Mark Pritchard, Dr. Sylvia Hendrix, Janelle Gorski, Dr. John Carr III, Dr. Arun Prahash, and the nursing staff at the Martha Jefferson Hospital Cancer Center. The family would also like to express gratitude for the compassionate care received from the Hospice of the Piedmont. Her wonderful team consisted of Sally Goodrich, RN, Lisa Stone, Social worker, Denise Vogt, Chaplain, and Helen Lewis, CNA.Lastly the family expresses their gratitude to 2 very special caregivers, Anna Hill and Juanita Perkins, who provided care in the home for the past 2 months. This was a very difficult time for our family and we were blessed to have the love and support from the Rev. Rick Clore and the Rev. Allan Miller, our Orange Baptist Church family, friends, family and extended family. Without this wonderful support this would have been an even more difficult time.My mom is at peace now with the Lord, and that gives me great comfort. We will miss her, and love her and she will never be forgotten.A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Orange Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Clore officiating.
