Jeanne Wheeler Spiess, 94, passed away December 13, 2018 on National Ice Cream Day, her favorite dessert. Funny, loving, caring and present till the end. She was preceded in death by her husband's, Randolph Wheeler (married 38 years), and Walter Spiess (married 20years). She is survived by her children, Bruce (Pam) Wheeler, Paul (Jenifer) Wheeler, Robin (Kenneth) Cherry; grandchildren, Heather, Rachel, Clinton, Katherine, Sarah, KJ; five great-grandchildren; two step children, Barbara (Roy), Winnie; and two step grandchildren, Ashley, and Kristen. They all adored their generous and loving Tutu who always had a sparkle of FUN and MISCHIEF in her eyes. Mom/Tutu/Jeanne grew up in Montclair New Jersey, raised her family in Huntington, Long Island and then split her time between Shelter Island, N.Y. and Palm City, Fla. She served as a volunteer with the Huntington Hospital Auxiliary and with Martin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for over 60 years. She travelled around the world several times and went on dozens of cruises, her favorite cruise was to the Far East for 68 days. She moved to Charlottesville in 2017 residing at The Colonnades but kept her home in Fla. Her bridge groups, exercise friends, dining partners, church community at Meadows Presbyterian and Madison Hall friends filled her days with companionship, laughter and joy. Love, kindness, optimism, gratitude, humor, forgiveness and beauty describe her. Many thanks to the nurses, care givers, physical therapists, and other therapists at the Colonnades who helped her during her final days. Mom/Tutu/Jeanne felt she lived a charmed life filled with the love of family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
