Bill and I were classmates at the Stewart Field USMA Prep School and company mates together in Co. B-1 as cadets. We were Infantrymen together at Fort Benning, GA after graduation and attended Airborne and Ranger School there. We never served together after that. However, Bill was one of the kindest, most gentle men I ever knew, and I had both admiration and respect for him. He embodies all that is best about West Point. Be Thou at Peace, Good Friend. Please accept my deepest sympathy upon Bill's passing. Bill was my West Point classmate. When I retired from the Army in 1980 I moved to Clifton, VA and joined the Clifton Lions Club to begin participating in community activities with people I hadn't known and who had been civilians most of their lives. At my first meeting the first person I saw at the top of the steps at the Clifton Fire Hall was my classmate Bill Skidmore. After we both got over the shock I found he was still on active duty and President of Clifton Lions Club. We shared many fine memories during Bill's year as president and I was fortunate to get to know Bill much better. He was a fine man and will be fondly remembered.

My roommate throughout our four years at West Point, Skid is as close to a brother that I have. Although I Have had but scant contact over these many years, Skid has ever been in my thoughts.

My roomate at West Point, Skid, was and is a good and dear friend. He helped me in more ways than I can remember. After graduation, he and I traveled to Europe for a MOST enjoyable and memorable visit--a wonderful memory! He will be with me, always.
