William Trainer Obituary
November 12, 1931 - April 26, 2025
William Terrence Trainer, 93, of Nellysford, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2025. He was born in Bangor, ME, on November 12, 1931, the son of Carl F. Trainer and Mary Patricia Mc Guire Trainer. He was a graduate of John Bapst High School in Bangor and the University of Maine in Orono.
After completing his service in the United States Army, Bill joined Merrill Lynch as a financial analyst and vice president. He raised his family in New York City and after retirement moved to the Wintergreen Resort in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.
Bill was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the Wintergreen links with his close friends. He was a passionate bridge player, achieving the rank of bronze life master from the American Contract Bridge League in 2014, and participated in numerous contract bridge tournaments in the Virginia area and beyond. He was also an enthusiastic collector of beer steins from Germany and souvenir buildings from around the world. He loved his time at Wintergreen and was especially fond of the summer music festivals.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Dean Trainer (née Harris), who died on January 15, 2006; and by his parents; sister; and two brothers. He is survived by his longtime partner and second love, Carol Horel of North Chesterfield, VA; his two children, Kevin Trainer of Kittery, ME, and Colin Trainer of Philadelphia, PA; and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lovingston with Father Roger Abadano officiating.
Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Lovingston.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Kevin and Colin-so sorry to hear about your dad. My dad, Bill Hackett, and Terry were great friends since childhood in Bangor. We have lots of memories of our families spending time together in NYC and Roxbury.
