Yolande Landry Obituary

Yolande Landry left us in the early morning of July 21, 2022, after a long illness, to the everlasting grief of her beloved wife, Phyllis Knight. She was the eldest of the seven children born to the late Patricia Power and Jules Landry and sister to Doreen and Louise, also deceased. Her other sisters and brothers, Simone, Mireille, Pierre and Georges, as well as her wife Phyllis, were very close to Yolande through the last stages of her life. She will forever be in their hearts and souls.

Since her early childhood, Yolande’s life choices have been outstanding, her fearlessness in action remarkable and her spirituality constantly renewing itself. After her undergraduate studies at the College du Bon-Pasteur in Chicoutimi and the College Jesus-Marie de Sillery, she left her Saguenay home and joined the Medical Mission Sisters in Philadelphia. She spent the following fifteen years of her life in this community, living the seven last years of her missionary work in Bengladesh. On her return to Quebec, she took her law degree at McGill University in Montreal. She then moved to New Mexico where she met Phyllis Knight, soon to become her life companion and some years later her wife. Together they lived in many places in the United States and Québec, including many years in Phyllis’s hometown in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 2017, they settled in Riviere-du-Loup, where Yolande died at the Residence Les Doux Souvenirs. Yolande will be long remembered, for she was loved and appreciated wherever she lived, and developed lasting friendships.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all the employees of Les Doux Souvenirs for their kindness, empathy and unrelenting attention to taking care of Yolande’s every need, to her last breath.

An intimate ceremony will be held in Yolande’s memory within a few weeks.

Yolande and I knew each other from our time in the MMS novitiate in Philadelphia, and later at Holy Family Hospital, in Dacca E. Pakistan (now Bangladesh). We shared many interests, especially music and culture. May she now rest in perfect peace.

Phyllis, while I never really knew Yolande personally, on of my dearest friends, Donna Dean, often spoke very fondly of her friend Yo. I am so sorry for your loss, and I am very grateful that you were able to be with her in her last days. And I know that Donna and Yo are having a great reunion in heaven, as every time she mentioned Yo, it was a memory of great fun times together. Sending love.
