Reverend Dr. Arthur Lawrence Benjamin

Rockaway Township - Reverend Dr. Arthur L. Benjamin, 84, died on July 10, 2021 in hospice care at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover, NJ. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Rockaway, NJ. For many years he lived in Denville, NJ before moving to Rockaway 3 years ago. He served in the U S National Guard as a Chaplin. He served as a Presbyterian minister in Malvern, PA and Oak Ridge, NJ. Arthur was also the Director of Research for the National Presbyterian Church in New York City and subsequently in Louisville, KY.

He is survived by his wife Hildegard M. Benjamin of 62 years, and by his 2 children; Ross Case Benjamin of Denville, Lisa Benjamin Macon of Aptos. He also leaves his 5 grandchildren; Ross Case Benjamin II, James Kyle Benjamin, Matthew Benjamin Whibley, Connor Michael Whibley and Cole Benjamin Macon as well as one great-grandchild Austin Carter Benjamin.

Arthur loved spending time with his family, enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing and hunting. He will be remembered for his steadfast consistency and big heart.

A memorial service will be held at the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church on Friday July 16th. Donations may be made to either the Presbyterian Church of Morris Plains or the Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church.

I never met Rev. Arthur but knew his wife when I Line Danced in Rockaway. She was special and I am sure her husband was too. My very sincere sympathy to "Hildy" and the family.
