Robert Hilbert Obituary

81, formerly of Mendham
WHITING -- Robert J. Hilbert died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, after a short illness. He was 81.
Born in Meyersville, N.J., he lived most of his life in Meyersville and Mendham before moving to Whiting 21/2 years ago.
He was a graduate of Morristown High School, class of 1945.
After graduation he enlisted and served in World War II with the Army's 82nd Airborne Division.
He was employed by Jersey Central Power and Light Co. for 40 years, starting as a linesman to become and retire as a superintendent.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting in the Great Swamp and in New York State with his son, Bob. He was proud of his deer trophies and especially proud of the wild turkey he shot in New York. He enjoyed digging and collecting antique bottles, amassing a collection of over 2,000. After retirement, he spent endless hours gardening, antique hunting, and caring for his fruit and vegetable stand in Mendham.
He is survived by his children, Nila and Joseph Sodano of Green Village, Robert Hilbert and Sandy Teresi of Manahawkin, Traci Hilbert of Easton, Pa., and Derenda Hilbert; his four grandchildren, Jody and Jamie Sodano, and Jake and Laura Hilbert; and his twin sister, Lorraine Bernard of Providence, R.I.
He was predeceased by his brother, Russell, and sister, Ruth Fullagar.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Green Village United Methodist Church, 500 Spring Valley Road, Green Village, N.J. 07935. Family and friends are welcome to attend the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Green Village United Methodist Church in his memory.
Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home of Manahawkin is in charge of the arrangements.

So sorry to read about Bob's passing, he was such a wonderful person. I remember using his pool often (ok, every day) as a child in Mendham. Wish I had gotten to see him again now that I am an adult.
