Emily Jones Obituary

Emily Braddock Jones lived a life of love, deep friendships, and grand misadventures that thankfully never ended in lawsuits. She married, birthed two trying but loveably tolerable sons, and welcomed everyone she met with a smile and an invitation to live forever in her heart. For 13 years she grudgingly carried a dark passenger, cancer, before leaving it behind to follow a new path to a better place in the early hours of June 13, 2023.

She was born to Dr. Thomas Nathan Braddock & Vivian Lee Braddock of West Point, MS on May 2, 1947. She is survived by her two sons Braddock & William and their father Colbert Jones.

Emily was a member of West Point High School's tight-knit class of 1965, a 1969 graduate of Ole Miss with degrees in English and Journalism, and holds a degree in Bank Marketing from the University of Colorado.

A former feature writer and Northwest Mississippi bureau chief for the Commercial Appeal, account manager for Security State Bank of Starkville, and monthly magazine editor for the Federal Land Bank in New Orleans, she returned to Mississippi to act as Executive Director of the Mississippi Restaurant Association in Jackson. Coming home to the Golden Triangle later in life she served as Lifestyles editor for the Starkville Daily News, winning numerous awards from the Mississippi Press Association. Her first collection of humorous essays, Love, Laughter & Losing My Keys, twice made the Clarion-Ledger's weekly list of 10 bestselling books in Mississippi. Aging Fearlessly was her second book.

A visitation will be hosted at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS from 2:00pm-4:00pm on June 18, 2023.

Emily was string and brave and while I have been fighting for 9 years she always gave me the courage to continue up. You will be missed

Emily was a special friend for many years. Her enthusiasm infected everyone. Her joy will be missed. Prayers and blessings are for the family.

I grew up across the street from Emily. My earliest memories are playing "mother may I" and "red light, green light" in her front yard on summer nights. That and Dr. Tom's brand new early edition Tbird. Emily was always a friend and kind to everyone. She will be missed.

Cannot adjust to the reality that we will not be sharing peach or elderberry wine, never ending laughter and conversations. Emily was a spitfire and delight. We shared genes and love of plop gardens, found animals and thoughts that were a little left of center. Love my memory of Emily´s Popcorn Cake at the family reunion. If we had been children we would have been banned from sitting with each other as mischief and laughter were a given. She had this effect on every one, bringing out youth and laughter. We hatched a plan to write a cookbook together "Outta My Head", yet geographic distance and life matters interfered. Emily, you inspired so many, provided so many laughs and good times. My Dear Cousin I toast your life with a glass of elderberry wine. Till we meet again.
