Palmyra, WI - HELEN DUNSHEE, 97-passed away on June 23, 2025, following complications from a stroke.
Helen was born Helen Louise Hopkins in Des Moines, Iowa, December 26, 1927. The first of 5 girls & 1 boy. She graduated from Chariton High School in Chariton, Iowa. Helen worked at a candy store & a "dime store" during high school and after. She met & subsequently married Robert Dunshee in October of 1946 following his discharge from the Navy. They resided in Iowa for one year prior to moving to Palmyra, WI in 1947. Helen worked for years at the T & O (presently Main Street Family Restaurant) in Palmyra and often filled in to help in the kitchen at the Nite Cap Inn. She spent a couple years working for Allen Reich, a local electrician. She went on to work for The University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, as the comptroller. She retired from the University after 25 years and eventually worked for Jones Travel out of Elkhorn. After Helen retired from Jones, she was remarried to Edward Lampsa of Palmyra. She loved to travel and took many trips overseas as well as numerous cruises. One of her favorites was when she took Jesus' path through the old country. Helen was very active in the Palmyra United Methodist Church & was always counted on to help where and whenever she was called. She was energetic and always had a smile for everyone. Her presence will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her son, Fred (Sandy) Dunshee of Covington, LA and her daughter, Joyce Dunshee of Phoenix, AZ, Grandson, Shane (Dani) Dunshee of Luling, LA and Great Granddaughter, Peyton Dunshee. 4 Sisters, Pauline Sonius, Pat (Ken) MacKenzie, Ann (Bill) Keucher, and Virginia (Larry) Schneider. Friend and former husband, Ed Lampsa. Numerous Nieces & Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (BOB) Dunshee, and her brother, Earl Thomas Hopkins, Jr.
Memorials in Helen's honor may be made to the Palmyra United Methodist Church.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, June 27, 2025 at the Palmyra United Methodist Church in Palmyra, WI. Visitation will take place from 9:00AM until the time of service at the church. Helen will be laid to rest following the service in Hillside Cemetery of Palmyra.
