Sue Dunshee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Funeral Home on Mar. 26, 2026.
Sue Ann Engel Dunshee, 85, of Houston, TX went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, March 2, 2026, at her home, Spring Cypress Senior Living in Cypress, TX.

Sue was born September 30, 1940 in Cedar Falls, IA, the second of five siblings born to the late Paul and Mildred Engel. After graduating from Hudson High School, she studied at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Professionally Sue worked various office jobs, primarily in the accounting and payroll departments until she retired in 2005.

Sue met her husband, Donald (Don) Dunshee on a blind date, an encounter that later led to him proposing to her on the steps of the Old Capitol in Iowa City. After marrying in 1964 they lived in multiple locations within Iowa, Illinois, Florida, and eventually Texas.

As a devout Christian Sue began each morning with a daily devotion. She regularly attended Bible study and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She often spent her time reading, sewing, traveling and accepting the challenges of the Number Fill-In Puzzle Books. However, she was most noted for a welcoming home and cooking fabulous meals and desserts that made your mouth water. She also dearly loved her two granddaughters, Mariclare and Megan.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Donald Dunshee, daughter Melissa Ann Dunshee, two brothers, Lynn Engel and John Engel; two brothers-in-law, Charles Hoos and James Menton; and sister-in-law, Margaret Dunshee.

She is survived by her children, Kristine (Joe) Moore and Bradley (Katherine) Dunshee, granddaughters Mariclare and Megan McNeill, sister Norma Hoos, brother Mark Engel, sisters-in-law Edith Engel (Lynn), Judy Engel (John), Sheryl Dunshee-Menton, brother-in-law David Dunshee, along with many other family and friends.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Sue Ann Engel Dunshee will be held in the Chapel of Memories at 10:30 a.m. on May 29, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, 4200 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402 with visitation 1 hour prior at the chapel.
