Ronald Grant Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Ronald Elgin Grant's passing on March 1, 2025 at the venerable age of 77. Ronald or "Ronny", as those near to him would call him, was deeply cherished as a parent, grandparent and friend. He held a special place in the hearts of many within the Dallas community.

Born on October 20, 1947 in Dallas, TX, Ronny dedicated his life to caring for the less fortunate and nurturing those around him with boundless love and kindness. A lifelong Dallas resident, Ronny grew up in Preston Hollow before attending SMU for undergraduate and law school. He graduated at the top of his law class in 1972 and then went on to practice family law for 52 years serving and protecting the underprivileged in our community. Ronny's greatest strength was his loving spirit, which lead him to spend his life fostering children, whose parents were unable to care for them. Over the course of 50 years, he offered a safe space, support system, shelter and provisions for dozens of children. One of his favorite lines he would echo daily to people was "hey baby" because, to Ronny, all his children were forever his babies.

Ronny was passionate about history and art specifically Native American and Scottish history, Civil War stories, U.S. presidents, oriental artifacts and Russian literature. An inveterate learner and reader, Ronny could discuss anything from philosophy, politics, classical literature and history.

Ronny leaves behind a number of adopted children, who he fostered throughout his lifetime, and an innumerable number of friends. He was preceded in death by Donald "Clint" Grant, father, and Myrtis Ann Haliburton Grant, mother.

A memorial of Ronny's life will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 22nd at 10:30 AM. A celebratory lunch will follow immediately after at Kirin Court Restaurant down the road. All friends and family are warmly invited to gather and share their cherished memories of Ronny.

As Ronny's favorite president, Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Ronny's enduring legacy in this world will be the countless lives he touched and inspired with what he did, with what he had. May he rest in eternal peace.

Ron was a fellow lawyer. I officed in a room about his office and we shared clients and friends. I bought and still use his partners desk--I spoke with him--the first time in 2-3 years about 2 months before he died and brought him an indian sand painting of his that I had purchased perhaps 15 years prior. I will miss his presence in this world

Ron was our neighbor before he was our lawyer. He was a truly good man and we will miss him. Go with God, Ron.

Ron was my attorney. He did my WILL and he kept my corporate books. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was always such a blessing to me and always made me feel cared for. He was the most kind man I have met. I will miss him so much. In addition, I need to get my corporate books from whoever is his successor. Blessings to everyone.

When I worked for Ron in the 1980s, my name was Mary Hartman. Ron was one of the most educated and knowledgeable attorneys I have ever known. He had a heart of gold and was also one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. His loss will be felt by so many. Rest in peace, Ron.
