William Manatt Obituary

MANATT, William Scott 1940 - 2015 Bill Manatt, 74, died on January 10, 2015 after a long battle with illness. Bill was born in Washing-ton, D.C. in 1940. His family ultimately moved to Hot Springs, AR. He attended Hot Springs High School where he was active in athletics and ROTC. After graduating in 1958, Bill attended the University of Arkansas. He met Sandra Westbrook in college, and they were soon married. He graduated from college with a degree in Engineering. Bill then entered the Army as an officer. After basic training, he was sent to Vietnam as a Combat Engineer. After completing his tour of duty, Bill returned to start a long and successful career as a Civil Engineer. He worked for various companies throughout his life including Coastal Plains, Gifford-Hill, Inc., Centex, Dolese, TXI, and Vulcan Materials. Bill became a top engineer, and his work was respected throughout the industry. Indeed, upon retirement at age 70, Bill remained in demand and formed his own consulting company to continue working. Bill had many hobbies, but above all, he loved working on cars and restoring antique cars. He also enjoyed fishing, snow skiing, golfing, and building scale models. Bill remained active in the Methodist church throughout his life. Bill loved cooking and was a foodie before the term became popular. He could tell you a good place to eat in practically every small town or city that he visited. Bill is survived by wife Sandra Westbrook Manatt, children Christopher Scott Manatt and Paige Manatt Mullin, grandchil-dren Michael, Sara, and Matthew Mckinney, and sister Sharon Collins. His memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 01 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church Plano. The address is 3160 East Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX, 75074.
