Suzanne Leo Bouton, 92, formerly of Darien, died on February 17, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, William C. Bouton, who died in 2021.
A kind, gentle soul, Sue maintained optimism and faith throughout her life. The youngest of six, Sue was the only daughter of Charles Rhinelander Leo and Bertha Schuldice Leo of Bronxville, New York and Bell Island. Sue graduated from Bronxville High School in 1950 and Wheaton College in 1954, where she majored in psychology. Sue was an avid reader throughout her life. An active sailor for decades, Sue particularly enjoying crewing aboard the family's Ensign out of Noroton Yacht Club. In retirement, she and Bill traveled extensively throughout the world.
Married to Bill in 1954, Sue cherished her home in Darien from 1955 to 1994. Valuing hard work throughout her life, Sue volunteered with the Junior League of Stamford/Norwalk, in school libraries at Hindley and Mather, and especially, at St. John Church, where she served on the Parish Council and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. In 1978, Sue went to work at The Darien Public Library, cataloguing materials. She continued this activity in retirement in Savannah.
Sue leaves behind her children, William, Jr. and Diane Bouton of Cumming, GA, Susan and Curt Sabate of Yardley, PA, and John and Carrie Bouton of New London, NH. Grandchildren include, Joanna Sabate, Will [Alexa] Sabate, and Ryan (Kelly) Sabate, Emma Bouton (Daniel Traver) and Callie Bouton, and Melisa Bouton Potts. She was also blessed with multiple great-grandchildren.
A service celebrating the memory of Sue and Bill Bouton will be held in May, with interment to follow in the Schuldice family plot in Danbury. Gifts in her memory may be directed to Wheaton College, Norton, Massachusetts.
