John Bouton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hampton Funeral Home & Cremation - Prescott on Mar. 6, 2026.
John Edgar "Ed" Bouton, 82, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, February 26, following a brief battle with cancer.

Ed was raised in Prescott, Arizona, and wherever life took him, it remained his home. A proud graduate of Arizona State University, he remained a devoted Sun Devil throughout his life. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy, including time stationed in Spain.

After his military service, Ed built a career in high-voltage electrical work and cell tower installations throughout the western United States and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). In retirement, he owned and operated a 200-acre hay farm in Montana, continuing the independent spirit that defined his life and career.

Ed was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, the mountains, and wildlife. He had a special connection with animals and cherished his cat Fred, his loyal dog Stockely, and a stray cat, Buddy. He valued lifelong friendships and remained close with friends from childhood. He also enjoyed football, baseball, and NASCAR.

In his later years, Ed developed a passion for classic cars and owned three, including a 1953 Chevrolet truck restored with the help of friends and a skilled craftsman. It was completed just in time for him to drive it two days before his passing.

Ed will be remembered for his strong work ethic, loyalty, generosity, and love of country.

He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Sharon Christopherson; his daughter, Sheri Ann Bouton; and his niece, Susie Hunter, and her husband, Bill Hunter. He was preceded in death by his sister and his parents.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the VA Hospice team for their compassionate care and support during his final days.

A military honors service will be held at Prescott National Cemetery on Monday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at Willow Creek Inn at 12:00 p.m.
