Warren Mathews
04/08/2024
Warren Francis Mathews, 84, passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 8th, 2024, in Tampa, Florida.
Warren was born the oldest of three children on January 24th, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Fenwick High School and went on to earn his BS in Economics at DePaul University in Chicago. Warren was a member of the Alpha Beta Gamma fraternity and served as president during his senior year. It was at DePaul where he met Gail, the love of his life. Following graduation, he went on to earn his MBA at Loyola University, after which he joined the Marines. Warren and Gail exchanged letters during his service in the Marines which led to their engagement.
On July 4th, 1964, Warren and Gail were married at Queen of Martyrs Church in Evergreen Park, Illinois. The 4th of July has always been a special day to celebrate their anniversary. In 1965, they welcomed their daughter Kimberly Ann, and in 1969, they welcomed their daughter Jill Elizabeth. Warren loved his children and four grandchildren immensely. He instilled in them a confidence to pursue their dreams, and he enjoyed nothing more than watching them "learn to fly."
Warren had an accomplished career in commercial real estate. In 1983 he moved with his family to Darien, Connecticut, where they lived for 30 years. Warren worked in New York City as Vice President of Real Estate for Batus, New York. Later, he went to work for Melville, in Rye, New York before opening Westfair Realty Advisors.
Warren was an avid sailor and was passionate about spending time sailing with his family and many friends aboard his beloved "Tango," a Sabre 362. Warren was a member of Noroton Yacht Club where he and his beloved wife Gail treasured their time exploring the New England waters.
In 2002 Warren and Gail became snowbirds splitting time between Darien, Connecticut and Palm Island, Florida, eventually moving to Tampa, Florida. Warren was a member of the Davis Island Yacht Club, Rotary Club of Tampa, and Knights of Columbus. They attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Warren is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gail Mathews, his children, Kimberly Osborne (Richard Osborne), Jill Alessi, and his four grandchildren Hugh Alessi, Jack Alessi, Benjamin Osborne, and Luke Osborne.
A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tampa, FL on May 3rd at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception at Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association in memory of Warren Mathews.
Warren exemplified a life well-lived and was adored by his family. He leaves a legacy of deep family commitment, unwavering kindness, and unconditional love for his family and friends.
