Family-Placed Obituary

THAL, Aaron of Atlanta, GA passed away on October 29 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, where he and his family have a summer home. He was born on July 4, 1920 in Dayton, OH and was the youngest of three sons of Joseph and Pearl Thal. He attended school in Dayton, OH and went on to graduate from Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. He then went on to Union College until World War II began, at which time he joined the Army Air Corps. When the war concluded, Aaron went to Atlanta, GA and became the owner/operator of the JP Allen Store there. The Thal Co. owned women's specialty stores throughout the eastern part of the country. He was well respected in the business community and sponsored many charitable events. He had an enormous fashion sense not only for his own wardrobe, but most especially for his customers. He and his wife were active in many of Atlanta's social events. During the Christmas holiday season, no merchandise was displayed in any of the JP Allen store windows – only holiday greetings to all. Mr. Thal married his wife, Nancy Braunfield, in October of 1958. She survives him along with their loving daughter Amy Thal, New York; stepdaughter, Marcy Ford, Atlanta; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Meg Roop, of blessed memory. A private graveside service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park. The memorial service will be held at a later date at The Temple in Atlanta.
