Albert Barlow Obituary


News Death Notice

BARLOW, Albert G. Age 75 of Dayton, OH passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. He was a graduate of Chaminade High School (1952) where he was a standout athlete earning All-City and All-State honors in football and was inducted into Chaminades Hall of Fame. Albert played football for the Dayton Triangles and briefly with the Boston Patriots before a knee injury ended his career. He enjoyed playing sports, cards, and fishing. In his younger days, he was an avid softball player. Albert was a longtime member of the Shamrock Athletic Club where he managed the bar and was the events coordinator until his retirement. Prior to working at the Shamrock Club, Albert owned and operated Als Catering, which ran a lunch and dinner truck to local plants and businesses in the Dayton area as well as his store near Wilbur Wright High School. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert H. & Josephine M. (Slivinski) Barlow of Dayton and a younger brother, Edward D. (Butch) Barlow of Kettering. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn R. (Burk) Barlow of Dayton; children, Michael of Washington Township, Cathleen of Dayton, David (Amy) of Vandalia, Janice (Rick) Dahlinghaus of Lexington, OH, Thomas (Tami) of Springboro, and Paul (Christa) of West Carrollton; 10 grandchildren, Carri, Christina, David, Nathan, Nick, Alex, Brody, Josie, Elsie and Grace; 2 step grandchildren, Michael & Daniel; 1 brother and 4 sisters, Josephine A. Millar of Dayton, Barbara Mills of Scottsdale, AZ, Jeri (J.T.) Townsend of Kettering, Robert (Debbie) of Centerville and Mary Barlow of Beavercreek; aunts Caroline Weiss and Millie Armstrong; sister-in-law Dolores (Sam) Mirizzi; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. There will be a gathering of friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 4 to 6 pm. Albert was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed their visits at the nursing home and seeing pictures and videos of their activities and accomplishments. He took every opportunity to tell others about them and their accomplishments. Condolences may be sent to tobiasfuneralhome.com.

I played Football beside Al with the Dayton Colts.(In 1960's) He played defensive tackle.He was tough & steady,with a smile on his face.I played Def. End beside him.No team was able to run on us.They had to move Al...& couldn't.He was a fine Man.

I was sorry to hear of Mr Barlow's passing. I transported him numerous times with EMT, Inc. My partner and I once said that he looked like he might have played football and were suprised to find out he had played with The Patriots. Though he often seemed gruff, he was an okay guy and interesting to talk to.
