Bruce Barnaby Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

BARNABY, Bruce McGaw died Wednesday at home in Reynoldsburg, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was 76. Bruce M. Barnaby was born on February 15, 1930, in Springfield, Ohio to Paul Jones Barnaby and wife, formerly known as Dorothy McGaw. He married his high-school sweetheart, formerly known as Carolyn Delaney, on November 12, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio. Bruce was educated at the General Motors Institute and began his long career with General Motors Corporation soon after graduation. After his early retirement in 1980, Bruce pursued a life in agriculture atop the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. In 1990, Bruce returned to Columbus to spend more time with his grandchildren. Bruce was a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and became known for his Dixieland and Big Band performances. His sister, Elaine, reported that when Bruce was young, he selected the trombone to master because it was the only instrument bigger than he was. His family fondly remembers how Bruce always sought after the "next" instrument, tool or activity to tackle and how none were ever too big to master. He was also known as an active member of the Broad Street Presbyterian Church; former choir director at Central Presbyterian Church, Dayton, Ohio; and choir director of The First Presbyterian Church of LaFollette, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; Carolyn L. Barnaby, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; their three daughters, Linda Warden, of New Albany, Ohio; Diane Smith, of Littleton, Colorado; Peggy Outcalt, of Westerville, Ohio; his sister, Elaine Groner, of West Carrollton, Ohio; grandchildren Jennifer Stein Fleishman, of New Albany, Ohio; Stephanie Simons Bobier, of Castle Rock, Colorado; Jessica Simons Dame, of Parker, Colorado; Joshua Stein, of Chicago, Illinois; Benjamin Stein, of Columbus, Ohio and great-grandchildren Lucas Bobier, of Castle Rock, Colorado; Tyler and Riley Dame, of Parker, Colorado; and Cooper Fleishman, of New Albany, Ohio. Memorial service to be held at Broad Street Presbyterian Church, 760 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43205 on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 10:30 am by Reverend Ann Palmerton. Visitation will begin at 9:45 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Bruce's name to Broad Street Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 760 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43205. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 614-861-6268.

To the Barnaby family:

We have a heavy heart today. Wish we could be there to comfort you, but my travel days are limited.

Bruce was my friend, confidant and co worker. We spent many hours on projects and at lunch at Woody's, Churches Fried Chicken and Red Lobster while working together at Frigidaire. I respected his judgement.

We will miss his emails and phone calls. May Our Lord and Saviour be with the Barnaby family now and forever. God bless each of you.
