News Death Notice

GARRISON, Charles Edward age 70 of Dayton, departed this life on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Kindred Hospital after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on October 8, 1942 to the late Edward O. Garrison, Jr. and Armittie (Olgesby) Garrison and moved to Dayton at an early age. Charles was a retired Supervisor for Delphi Chassis-GM with 37 years of service. A graduate of Dunbar H.S. class of 1962, Charles also attended Sinclair Community College and the University of Dayton. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Charles, an avid sports fan, loved the Bengals and formerly coached the girls' basketball team at Shilohview Elementary. You could always find him in his favorite spot on the couch looking at Westerns. His bright smile will be missed. Charles is preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson, Isaiah Garrison. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Kathleen C. Garrison; 7 daughters, Renee (Johnny) Vance, Cheryl (Kenneth) McCall, Dana M. Blaine, LaDeanna (Chris) Barton of Atlanta, GA, Tracy K. Blaine, Dachell Davis and Christina (Charles III) Nelson of Birmingham, AL; brother Elbert (Dorothy) Garrison; sister, Anndail (Lonnie) Gilbert; 13 grand-children Kristen Vance, Isaiah Vance, Ryan Vance, Kendra McCall, Kendall McCall, Donte Garrison, Deljuan Garrison, Christopher Garrison, Chloe Blaine, DeMarco Garrison, Ciera Davis, Alexandra Nelson, Alijah Nelson; six great-grandchildren; special brother Pastor David H. (Edith) Jones; mother-in-law Dorothy J. Smith; sister-in-law Judy Green; best friend Richard Jeter; special cousins Bob and Barbara Bostick; special aunts and uncles William and Almeter Proctor, Herdie and Minnie Makupson, Cleo Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Homegoing service will be held 11 am Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Phillips Temple CME Church, 3620 Shiloh Springs Rd. Reverend Samuel Carter officiating. Reverend James E. Washington will give the eulogy. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
