News Death Notice

MICHAELS, David C. Age 23, of Dayton, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 9, 2014. David was a graduate of Northmont High School and attended Wright State University with a Technical Theatre Major. He worked as a performing artist and was an improvisation teacher. All who knew him were brought together and overjoyed by his slapschtick, high-brow comedy, and eyebrow comedy. David's passions and pastimes included movies, motorcycles, sports, music, outdoor adventure, and sharing time with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ivy J. Michaels; paternal grandparents, Jerome & Mardelle (Levin) Friedberg; maternal grandparents, Don & Anne (Rayburn) Parris; and Uncle Stephen Friedberg. David is survived by his father, Howard Michaels of Dayton; sisters, Lauren Michaels (Nisan Earnest) of Los Angeles, CA; Lisa Michaels of Dayton; Uncle Gary Friedberg of Pittsburgh, PA; great uncles Louis Levin (Sarah Litwin), & Allen Levin, great aunt Karen Levin; cousins, Malcolm & Marsha Segelin, Ryan Levin, Danielle Young, Jonathan Soper, and numerous other relatives and friends. All whose hearts were touched by David's brilliant light are encouraged to attend funeral services at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Beth Abraham Cemetery Chapel, 1817 West Schantz Avenue with Rabbi Joshua Ginsberg & Cantor Andrea Raizen officiating. Internment Beth Abraham Cemetery. Immediately after the funeral service, the family warmly welcomes everyone for a luncheon at the Levin Family Foundation, 7812 McEwen Road, Suite 100, Dayton, Ohio 45459. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in David's memory be made to The Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, www.bbrfoundation.org,1-800-829-8289, 90 Park Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10016. I am so saddened to hear of David's passing. I remember his buoyant personality and contagious sense of humor so well; he was a charming and uplifting addition to our yearbook staff. My heartfelt condolences to his father, extended family, and friends.

Dave was one of those people from school that even though we didn't see one another or speak after graduation I still thought fondly of him and would've enjoyed running into him had the opportunity risen. He would always be trying to make everyone around him laugh, it was never at anyone else's expense. He would just do and say goofy things, like the wave with his eyebrows or make a lame joke or pun. My brother and I road the bus with him for a while through middle school into high school (until Lisa got her license that is) and those were always the quickest trips to and from school. At one point we had public speaking class together and he was the first person to sit next to me on the first day, because he was just that kind of guy. I always admired his confidence in front of that class, as well as his super fast rubik's cube solving abilities. I am sad to hear that he is gone, but I hope his family is warmed by the thoughts and memories of who he was and they take precedence over that fact. We wish you our deepest sympathies.

I only knew David for a few days in late July for the wedding of a mutual friend. I found him to be a funny, outgoing guy who could bring humor to any situation. While I didn't know him well, what I have seen and heard since his passing is that he is a light that went out far too soon.
