TO THE YANEY FAMILY. I DIDN'T KNOW OFFICER YANEY,BUT THE WAY PEOPLE SPOKE OF HIM REALLY TOUCHED MY HEART IN A WAY HE OBVIOUSLY TOUCHED THEIRS. YOUR LOSS WAS HEAVEN'S GAIN. GOD BLESS.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Yaney family,I have known the Yaneys as long as I can remember. We grew up in the plat together playing tag, kickball, hide and seek, or down at the creek.. David was always telling us about Custer. Dave was always meant to be in law enforcement. When we were kids growing up in the plat he was always playing army, cowboys, or cops and robbers, he was always the good guy.

I am a dispatcher at Englewood PD and although I did not know nor had never met Officer Yaney I definitely knew OF him and already miss hearing his indistinguishable voice on County North. Trotwood will never be the same. My heart goes out to all his family and friends who will forever miss him with hopes that the wonderful memories will someday fill the void left behind.

January 14, 2013

I knew Dave since we were in elementary school. I remember us walking into the last standing building at TM, recently torn down, many mornings while in junior high school together. He was always witty and a jokester but I also knew his soft side as he would always insist on carrying my books for me. It didn't surprise me at all when he became a police officer and I knew he'd be a good one. He liked everyone and never judged people; he was a fair cop. He was a genuine person and a very dedicated police officer and always willing to listen or lend a hand. I was proud to know him. I hope all of these heartfelt words/memories from others will comfort his family during this difficult time. Rest in peace my dear old friend, I am certain that you are with God now & walking the streets of gold.

To the Yaney family,

Brad and I are so very sorry for your loss. These are times when the "thin blue line" is not so thin, and the entire police community mourns with you. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Officer Yaney lived next door to my late grandmother. She was very elderly, and he would help my mother by keeping an eye on her house, and always staying in communication with her. Mom has always been thankful and grateful for his help. I never had the pleasure of meeting Officer Yaney, but I'm eternally thankful to him for his assistance to my mom.

David,Thank-You for the countless times you took my mom to Miami Valley Hospital for her Radiation treatments in the back of ambulance 303. You made those treatments so such tolerable for her with your witt, humor and hilarious jokes. You always made her smile. For everybody you have touched while on this earth , we will miss you.
Watch out for those Pit Bulls up there.

I grew up in Drexel. The police wasn't very friendly with the younger people. Yaney changed that. If you treated him with respect he did the same. And everybody I knew loved him. Dave didn't judge us because of where you was from. He touched a lot of people, young and old. With all the people he dealt with day in and day out he always remembered your name, no matter how long it was since he last ran into you. If they trained all of the police to treat people the way Dave did. He was 1 of a kind. Thanks Yaney for all that you have done for all of us. Prayers for you and your family.

January 12, 2013

Our sincerest condolences to the Yaney family. What a blessing it was to have known you and your family. Your courage and strength will be fondly remembered when thinking of you. In grief and sorrow we turn to the Lord to calm our fears and lift our burdens. When worries abound and the future looks bleak, Then our faith must not falter and never grow weak. For whenever we're troubled and things become grim, we turn to the Lord and ask help of Him. He wipes away the troubles and burdens we bear; His compassion and mercy keep us safe in His care. When our wellspring of faith remains steadfast and true, He loves and protects us in all that we do. (by Dolores Karides). Rest assured the path of faith will one day lead us home. Godspeed dear friend to your heavenly home in the sky. And, thank you for devotedly serving our hometown. Your roots are planted deep and we feel content that your path will bloom like wildflowers along a country road.

My thoughts & prayers are with the family, friends, many law enforcement officers and emergency responders that knew and cared for Officer Dave Yaney. Dave became a friend in the field over 25 years ago when I first started my career as an Animal Care & Control Officer with Montgomery County Animal Resource Center. We met during his years with Madison Twp and later Trotwood. He always had my back when I called for his assistance. I think he could recall every citizens first name in his beat or so it seemed at times. He was a great guy! I loved his sense of humor! He will be missed!

To the Yaney and Wells families - We were blessed to share this Earth with such a loving, funny man. He was a regular, in the mornings, for coffee and a paper at Go-Fers, until our family sold the business. I was always amused at the conversations he and my dad (who always called him "Sarge") would have. He was a treasure. Our prayers to you and everyone who knew him. So very sorry for your loss.

Dave and I met at Trotwood Rescue in the early '70's. I'm honored to call him friend and cherish the many, many memories we accumilated along the way. Dave was a free spirit sporting the " infamous" cat hat and mirrored shades. I'm so proud of the respected , honorable man we know today. Although our paths rarely crossed lately, the bond of yesteryear remained solid. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Beth and your children. You truly are the " light" in Daves life. Rest in peace old friend! Chuck & Minnie Lake, New Lebanon.

Beth I sent an entry earlier, but I forgot to mention this. My morning ride to work will be just a little lonelier. On many mornings Dave and I would ride down Main Street side by side. He would often rev his engine or make a funny face at me as we drove down Main street. We would wave by as he would turn into Speedway and I would continue down the street to go to work. I will miss the morning funnies with him. My prayers are with you and the children.

What to say about Dave, He was a great neighbor. Would do anything for you. He would shovel the snow off my driveway many times. When I went to pay him all he would say is for me to make him a sweet potatoe pie, So of course I made one for him, on many occassions. . As he would turn the corner going home he would always say, "Hey Hottie what ya doing." would always incourage Linda Huffman and me when we walked. He will be missed. Beth and children thank you for sharing him with me. The neighborhood will be just a little more silent without Dave. He truely gave of himself.

I worked at the Mont.Co. Animal Resource Center for 30 yrs and of all the Police Officers I assisted or assisited me on a call I was always glad to see old David on the scene. Any guy that would go into a house full of Timber wolfs with you with just a control pole you had to like and respect. We alway kidded about retiring and how gray we were getting and sharing a joke. From the Madison Twp days till now he will alway be my favorite. He was one good Cop and a American Hero. My heart broke to hear of his death. My prayers go out to his Family and the other Trotwood Officers and crews. We lost a good one. RIP my friend......

I met "Yaney" back in the late 70s when I first appeared at Trotwood Rescue with my shiny new paramedic credentials, ready to "save the wrold".

Over the years I was a member of Rescue Yaney taught me many important things.
1. Always treat the sick, injured, and elderly with respect and compassion.

2. The best way to use the many tools in the Rescue truck was to hand them to Yaney and get out of the way.

3. How to handle the idiots, drunks and druggies a the KISS concerts at Hara Arena.

And most important...

4. Don't even think about changing the channel on the TV during a John Wayne movie.

Dave, you were the John Wayne of Trotwood, tough, ornery, dependable and dedicated. The Duke would have been proud of the man you were, the life you lived and the lives you touched and influenced, including mine. You will always be remembered.

My sympathy to the entire Yaney family, I have known the Yaney family all my life as neighbors then also had the pleasure of being one of Dave's co-workers. There are so many posts from so many people, Dave truely had compassion for his fellow man and treated people with respect and dignity, my idea of a great officer and person. I know how much he loved and respected his family and never had a bad word to say about anyone and always could think of something to make you laugh. Dave changed the lives of people for the better and for some of them I'm sure was a bright light on a bad day. I dont think anyone will ever know how many lives he did touch, i hope that his legacy lives on with fellow officers everywhere and everyone takes just that one extra step as Dave did to help people out and show them he cared, a class act for sure. When I was young and deciding who I wanted to be, I showed up at Trotwood Rescue and Dave Yaney said "You don't wanna be a cop, you wanna be an EMT." Years later when I was working with Captain Sampson and riding with different officers, every time I saw Dave (and each time we crossed paths for many years after) he would always tease me and say "See, you should have been a Cop." I'll miss occasionally running into him and going through that routine as we always have. There is only one Trotwood, and it was blessed to have the one and only Dave Yaney protecting it. A great hero has been lost to us.

Dave "John Wayne" Yaney,

It has truly been and Honor to have spent time with you, with our families, with friends and with our Brothers & Sisters in Law Enforcement over the past 28 years. I love and respect you and will cherish the memories that we made together, working the streets of Trotwood, hunting, fishing and just hanging out.

Your Friend and Brother,
Bill Toney, Trotwood PD/DEA Dayton
