News Death Notice

GETZ, Dorothy M. age 92, of Dayton, OH, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010. She is preceded in death by her husband Howard A. Getz; parents Lawrence A. and Lorine F. Heckler; son Howard R. Getz; sisters Virginia Mack and Patricia Hamilton; and son in law Jack Davis. Dorothy is survived by children Lorine M. Getz of Hilton Head Island, SC, Susan L. Getz of Dayton, M. Kathleen Davis of Seattle, WA, Kenneth L. Getz of Hilton Head Island, SC, Beth Ann Hallman of Dayton; grandchildren Jason H. (Robyn) Hartman, Michael W. (Erin) Evans, Matthew E. (Luna) Hartman, Steven R. (Elizabeth) Hallman and Daniel P. (Ashley) Hallman; great grandchildren Kylie R. Hartman, Kensington S. Hartman, Lili T. Moser-Hallman and Brayden Evans; sister Mercedes McMillin; numerous nieces and nephews; and close family friend David Kelly. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on December 13, 1917, Dorothy graduated from Carrick High School and Duff's Iron City College. She met her husband of 56 years at Duquesne Gardens where they became a well regarded ice skating couple. Dorothy was a homemaker who also worked in retail pharmacy sales. She was the first president of Duquesne University's Faculty Wives Association. Visiting family and friends, she traveled extensively throughout the United States. Dorothy was a devoted church member who belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was known as the "prayer warrior." A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday August 19, 2010 at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 405 East National Rd. Vandalia. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dorothy M. Getz Memorial, Fifth Third Bank, 5750 N. Main St., Dayton, OH, 45415. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com
