Frederick HADDIX Obituary

HADDIX, Frederick E. 86, of South Charleston, passed away on April 19, 2017. He was born on November 21, 1930 the son of Harvey and Nellie Haddix (Greider). Fred was raised by his parents on their farm in South Vienna along with his three brothers. Fred attended Catawba High School graduating in 1949. Fred played basketball his sophomore, junior and senior years and was chosen for the Clark County All-Star Basketball First Team all three years. Fred also excelled as a high school baseball playerand was known as a hard throwing left-handed pitcher who was mound-wise beyond his years. In his senior year, Fred pitched his team into the finals of the Class B Regionals. The Springfield News and Sun reported that baseball scouts focused on Clark County because they wanted to add the name of young Fred Haddix to a professional baseball contract. In 1950 he played professional baseball as a pitcher for the Red Soxs in Marion, Ohio. Fred served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He attended spring training in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1957 and later played in Corning, New York. He resigned from baseball in 1958. He spent the next 35 years working for Ohio Edison retiring in 1991. For many years, Fred continued to play amateur baseball while enjoying fishing, hunting, raising and training hunting dogs, and playing golf. Fred is survived by his two daughters, Linda Bernetich and her three children Erika, Chase, and Luke, Lori Haddix and her three children Gregory Hamilton (Erin), Amanda Cydrus (Matthew), and Aaron Miller, his brother and sister-in-law, Benjamin and Ruth Haddix, daughter-in-law Cindy Haddix, grandson Ryan Haddix, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Virginia Haddix, his second wife Alice Haddix, his brother Edwin Haddix, his brother Harvey Haddix, and his son Andrew Haddix. All services will be held at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER with visitation on Tuesday, April 25th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m. with Dave Augustus officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.jacksonlytle.com.

To Mr. Haddix and Family,I'm very sorry to here of his passing,years ago I went to a garage sale he was having I talked with him a long time we talked about fishing and hunting,he gave me a turkey caller he made his self I looked at it the other day and thought of him,he was a very kind man and the world lost a good person,RIP Mr. Haddix,you all will be in my thoughts.Mark mounts
