Herman KRANBUHL Obituary

News Death Notice

KRANBUHL, Jr., Herman C. age 90, of Fairfield, Ohio passed away Monday, August 6, 2012 at 9:40 a.m. at Hospice of Hamilton. He was born on December 15, 1921 in Hamilton, Ohio to Herman and Helena (Dunbar) Kranbuhl Sr. He was the fourth of six children and the first son. He grew up on the family farm on the corner of Princeton and Liberty Fairfield Roads. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1939, attended the University of Cincinnati. During WWII he agreed to drive his friends to take the navy flight eligibility exam and ended up being the only one accepted into the program. He went through early flight training at Hogan Field and the Middletown Airport. After basic training in Chicago and flight training in Pensacola, Florida, he was given a medical discharge due to a heart murmur due to rheumatic fever. The doctor told him to go home, get a desk job, and put his feet up and relax because he was going to die by the age of 40. Instead he went to Indianapolis where he worked as an Engineer at Allison Aircraft and in 1945, he returned to Hamilton to help his father with the family's construction business. He became one the finest contractors in Hamilton and Fairfield building beautiful homes as well as commercial buildings, for over 40 years. On December 15, 1943 he married Mary Jane Weinman, his wife of over 68 years. Together they had 5 children, Michael (Maureen) Kranbuhl, Tim (Leta) Kranbuhl, Nancy (Scott) Whitaker, Katie Loudermilk and Adam (Sonja) Kranbuhl, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. They moved to Fairfield in October, 1953 into a house he and his father built. There they raised their children, hosted family dinners every Sunday night, entertained friends and enjoyed their life together.Herman was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Margaret Popp, Mary Jane Mallory, Betty Mundinger, Ruth Ann Manning and Jack Kranbuhl. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Kranbuhl, his children, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends Lamont Jacobs and Ralph Guenther. He lead by example, lived a life of integrity and character and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Herman was involved in the development of Fairfield, helped build the first Little League baseball fields behind what is now Gilmore Lanes, and sponsored youth baseball teams for many years (Kranbuhl Builders). Herman was a member of Prince of Peace Church, served on the board of Fort Hamilton Hospital and was a member of Civitan and loved fishing in Canada, Alaska and goose hunting in Illinois. Also was a founding member of Ducks Unlimited. Funeral Services will be Friday August 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church, 23 S. Front Street, Hamilton Ohio. Burial in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home 3950 Pleasant Ave. Hamilton. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairfield Community Foundation. The family would like to thank his Doctors, Christopher Meier, Doug Feeney, Paula Weisenberger and Hospice of Hamilton for their extraordinary care.
