McFeeters, Irene June

Irene June McFeeters, 96, of Middletown, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Arlington Pointe. She was born to parents, Stephen and Fannie (Lowman) Boyer on January 5, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the age of 17, June volunteered to be a Surgery Ward nurse at Camp Atterbury for the Army in 1945. Through most of her lifetime she volunteered by serving at church for 12 years, helped to establish a partnership with a church in Budapest, Hungary, served with the Red Cross, visited shut-ins, helped with Food Pantries, and assisted with transportation. In 1966 she volunteered for the American Field Service and for 9 months she hosted Amin Saikal of Afghanistan. She also helped to take care of her mother and brother until their passing, as well as her beloved husband who struggled with Alzheimer's. In 2010, she was granted her Wish of a Lifetime when, at the age of 82, she became the oldest person to be inducted by the US Army and gave several speeches. June is survived by her sons, Terry McFeeters, Jerry (Judith) McFeeters and Garry (Nancy) McFeeters; grandchildren, Teresa, Raymond, Stephanie, Travis & Casey; several great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Wood; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Harold "Mac" McFeeters; son, Larry McFeeters; granddaughter, Diana; daughter-in-law - JoAnn McFeeters; brothers, Frank, Bill, Art, Mack and Jesse Boyer; and sisters, Louise Shafer, Goldie Chambers and Eva LeFever. Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, with Reverend Dr. Steven Copeland officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be at North Monroe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 - OR - Presbyterian Youth Program, c/o One Community Church, 57 W.
