Jim was a good friend who lead me into my Turfgrass management career at Santa Anita Park. We spent many years together in pursuit of creating safer racing surfaces for the Thoroughbred Racing industry at Santa Anita, the STMA, and ASTM. Harriett would most always accompany Jim to Santa Anita and enjoyed her sitting reading a book in our offices while Jim and I did our business. Jim was so smart and so humble and willing to share all he knew to all of his students. I will miss him dearly.
