James McClain Obituary

News Death Notice

McCLAIN, James P. On October 1, 2010 at 3:04 in the morning, James Patrick McClain, age 87, peacefully died. Jim McClain was a consummate gentleman. Hair in place, trousers creased, shoes shined, he always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. Jim was an artist, a lover of music, a voracious reader, and decorated Army veteran. His convictions were strong and his voice rose only at injustice. He recited poetry and limericks, sang many a baby to sleep, was quick with a joke, and harmonized with his friends after an evening of good cheer. Jim McClain was a class act! His true legacy, of which he was most proud, was his family. The beloved late wife he adored, Rose Marie. His uniquely individual children: Kathy Meyer, Dan McClain, Jim McClain, Barry McClain, Brigid McClain, Matt McClain, Kevin McClain, Colleen Siferd and Maura Krotts. His talented grandchildren: Stephanie, Shannon, Juliana, Matthew, Ryan, Brendan, Annie, Colin, Kelsey, Cassie, Aaron, Aidan, Lindsey, Logan, Brittany, and Jessie. His adorable great-grandchildren: Sequoia, Grace, Benjamin, Libby, and Timothy. Finally, his supportive sons and daughters-in-law whom he loved as his own: Don, Gail, Tati, Kim, Sue, Sheryll, Tim, Melissa, Erica, Joanne, Mike, and Dave. When asked how he was feeling, Jim would quip, "I'm still vertical!" May you walk eternally vertical, hand-in-hand with Rose Marie, the love of your life. "May the sound of happy music, and the lilt of Irish laughter, fill your heart with gladness that stays forever after." Private services. If desired, memorial contributions may be donated to Vitas Hospice, 3055 Kettering Blvd., Suite 320 Dayton, Ohio 45439. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com. Brigid, Jimmy & Family,

So sorry to hear of this passing. I remember Jim as a terrific wonderful loving happy friendly funny guy. He was always the kind of dad you loved your friends having. And because of your folks, your home was always welcoming and interesting and creative...the kind of place kids love to visit. Count me among that kind of "kid."

Love and blessings in a difficult time as you celebrate a life well lived.
