I have been a musician my entire life (drummer) and I owe it all to Mr Burnett who first taught me how to do a drum roll at Frost Middle School. I have lots of blue ribbons from receiving #1s at music competitions under Mr. Burnett. He taught me the correct way to play "The Downfall of Paris". He and Greg are also the reason that I attended MSU. He was a great man and I am honored and grateful to have had the privilege to be mentored by him.

To Ray’s Family: Your Father, Grandfather, and I’m certain, friends and mentees too numerous to count, remains one of the most influential and inspiring people in my life. When I left Parkside High School in 1967 I was First Chair in the Orchestra String Bass section ~ credit due in large part to Ray’s unmistakable love of music, people in general, and his students in particular. My, my do I wish I had known of his love for the Lord during those tumultuous times. It would have made crystal clear why his classroom was arguably the safest haven on the campus. He is, without doubt, a welcomed addition to every Celestial Band, Orchestra, Choir, Ensemble, etc. in every genre imaginable where his combined unsurpassed character, personality, and talent are now, more than ever, glorifying God! What a memorable role model! Thank you God . . . and Ray’s family for his remarkable life with us all!Eternally grateful.

Wow...I have thought of Mr Burnett often over the years. It was he who taught me how to play the clarinet at Northeast Jr High. To show how great of a teacher he was, I went from beginning to intermediate to marching bands in the same year! After leaving Northeast I went to Parkside and was part of the Swinging Eagles and Pop goes the Eagles. Thank you Burnett family for sharing him with us. He will be truly missed.

Mr. Burnett was my band teacher at Northeast. I also took summer school/lessons from him between 6th and 7th grade. His style of teaching was to encourage me, which was exactly what I needed. As a result, band was my favorite class! Thanks, Mr. Burnett...you'll be missed.

Ray was a lovely man with a lovely family, and he brought out the best in everyone. I am proud to have been a Swingin' Eagle. Those days were among my most treasured high school days! Thank you for the memories Mr. Burnett. My thoughts and prayers to your family.

My parents taught me music was important, Mr. Burnett taught me to love music. Rare is a man who touches so many lives. I am almost 60 years old and still think often and fondly of Mr. Burnett and the Flight of the bumblebees.

To Steve and the entire Burnett family, my sincerest condolence on the loss of your father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ray most certainly combined the roles of musician, teacher and showman into a career that had a lasting impact on so many. Through "Pop Goes the Eagles" concerts he shared his limitless positive spirit, enthusiasm, excitement and creativity with everyone in attendance. They were greatly anticipated events each year.

Mr. Ray Burnett... was for me, the most influential, dedicated and caring teacher. He was brilliant, skilled, and compassionate. His fun loving demeanor made you want to be the best "swingin' eagle" you could be.
So very sad to lose him, my heart goes out to all of you...as you pass through these days of grief. His light lives on in each of us that have had our lives touched by this great man....he will held in my heart...forever as a gift from this world.

Mr. Burnett was my band teacher at East Intermediate, and my drivers training teacher later on. He was a very kind man, and I am sure left happy memories in the minds of many "Easties".
