John Culp Obituary

Culp, John Howard "Jack"

John "Jack" Howard Culp, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 85. Born on January 10, 1939, Jack lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and an enduring love for nature and photography. After graduating from Fairview High School and attending the University of Cincinnati, Jack remained a lifelong Daytonian, minus the years spent in Cincinnati. He furthered his education throughout adulthood by taking history classes at the University of Dayton. In 1973, Jack founded Audio Visual Systems, a decision that led him to remarkable professional achievements, including his role as president of the ICIA and as the recording secretary at the Dayton chapter of SCORE. He extended his commitment to service by presiding as the president of his Homeowners' Association for 25 years. Jack's family was the heart of his world. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Ann Culp; his children, Nelson (Alissa) Culp, John (Peggy) Culp, and Pam (Gary) Herbert; his sister Jan Abbott; his cherished grandchildren, Chloe Culp and Bobbi Culp; and a great-grandchild, Walker Gudgell. Jack was also a beloved uncle to his niece, Samantha Kane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Merritt and Dorothy Eleanor Culp. His life was a testament to the values of love, optimism, and faith. An avid photographer, Jack captured the beauty of nature, beaches, and sunsets, leaving a legacy of breathtaking images that mirrored his view of the world. He has the best taste in music where he filled his home with the beauty of classical and jazz. Jack's passion for giving back was evident through his numerous volunteer roles on various community boards. He will be remembered as a loving and faith-filled man, whose optimism touched all the lives he encountered. Jack's warm, engaging, and attentive nature will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire for generations to come. Please come celebrate Jack's long life at his home church where he was a Deacon. Services will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church 125 N Wilkinson St, Dayton, OH 45402 on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow at the church. His urn will be buried at David's Cemetery at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Westminster Church and Daybreak. Arrangements entrusted to Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home. Jack was a friend to all and all felt friendship from him.
