John and I were friends growing up. We both lived on Charles Street for a time. One memory that keeps coming to mind is a sleepover we had once where they issued a tornado warning, sirens and all. John, his mother, and I stayed in the basement and played games to pass the time. It wasn't all that bad considering we were with good friends. His mom and dad were always good to my family and John was a good kid. I hope his family can find peace and John is resting peacefully in Christ. Though it has been many decades since we lost contact, I can still remember seeing John at the bus stop in front of our old house. For what it's worth I have personally lost close family and friends in the service during my active duty years. My belief is that while they are no longer with us, they moved on and their spirit remains with us and within our memories. Rest in Peace John.
