Gretchen and Robert:
I assume John told you of our friendship. We first knew each other through his phone ministry for Jehova's Witnesses and while he was living at the Brown Krause home . We met monthly for coffee and to have John give me a Bible lesson. I valued those moments for John's convictions regarding his faith and for the obvious intelligence he possessed based on a remarkable vocabulary and his familiarity with his Bible. I have not seen him since April and was saddened to learn on October 24 of his death. He told me of his love and concern for his family in spite of the trials he had known and his role in them. Believe me, he was a good friend to me. I regarded him as a special person in my life.

To Gretchen and Robert,
Please accept my condolences in the loss of your brother.
I knew John at Chaminade during our freshman year. He was a really good guy, and we were pretty good friends. When I didn't see him around, I inquired about John, and heard about the incident. At that time of my life, I had no idea who to call - so I didn't do anything, I just hoped he would be OK. I wish I did know who to call, for I remember John as a good person, and someone who would've been a great friend... and I'm sure he was - to the people that met him along his life's path.
Oddly enough, at times over the years I would think about John - wondering how he was doing - and sure that he was doing well, since he was such a good (and smart) 'kid'.
So, today I was reading Sunday's Dayton Daily News, and saw his name. I was saddened, just like all the other people who were touched by him would feel - for he touched me those many years ago...
I hope he had a good life, for he was a good man.
