Kenneth Bailey Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

BAILEY, Kenneth L. of Tipp City, Ohio passed away on January 10, 2008. Law was his passion. An ACTEC Fellow, he was drawn to the complexities of estate planning. He brought enthusiasm and excitement to the puzzles of his clients' needs and devoted his life to helping them. A big thanks goes to his loyal office staff for their long years of service. In his 50 years of practicing law, he had the honor to work with many colleagues in this field and affiliated professions. He admired them and enjoyed their camaraderie. The lunchtime Round Table at The Bicycle Club was especially dear to his heart. His life's second passion drew from his roots growing up in rural Auglaize County, Ohio. A tree enthusiast, he studied rare and unusual specimens. When feasible, he brought them to the 27 acre arboretum that he and his wife of 45 years, Barbara Studebaker, designed at their home. Ken's family included children Heather and Grant and their spouses Frank and Lesley. Grandchildren are Connor, Quentin and Brooke. The caring nurses of Hospice of Dayton are owed heartfelt thanks for their work. A celebration of Ken's life will be held at The Schuster Center's Wintergarden atrium, downtown Dayton, OH, on Friday, January 18. Clients, friends and family are welcome. Informal visiting time begins at 3:30. At 5:30, we will gather to share memories of Ken's life. Memorial contributions can be made to Heifer International, P.O. Box 8058, Little Rock, AR, 72203.

Dear Barbara, Heather, and Grant,

My condolences to you. As I read through the words of your friends and associates I am struck by how much Ken and your family mean to many. As a family member who has not been close over the years, I believe I have erred in not developing a stronger relationship. However, I have childhood memories of time spent on the Bailey farm and the fun of being with my cousins, and I hold these memories very close.

I will speak here for my father, Roger Bailey, and my stepmother, Irene Bailey, also my mother, Pera Shappell, and I will tell you how lovingly Ken was spoken of to me of times when he was a "cuddly" toddler to a loved and respected adult.

My thoughts are with all of you.

Dear Barbara, Heather and Grant,
Ken was a great neighbor and we will surely miss him "on the hill." His love of a good pie, a nice glass of wine and the world around him will be held in all of our hearts. Perhaps most of all, we will miss his "full-body smile." You are in our thoughts. Love, Reed, Lori and Ethan Spencer

In the short time we have known Ken and Barbara we have come to appreciate their stength and kindness. They have been an example of how to handle adversity in life, but yet still appreciate the good things in life while facing that adversity. Our prayers will continue for Barbara as Ken now is at peace in a better place.

My dear cousins,

One of the world's best story tellers has left this realm, and we will always miss his smiling face and shiny head. How wonderful that he got to see his arboretum vision take shape.

Dear Barbara Jo, Heather Jane and Grant,
I remember so many fun times with your Daddy and all of you, eating popcorn at Mom and Dad's, picnics, going swimming up at Uncle Bob's, seeing him the first time sleeping outside late at nite under a white sheet when it was sooo hot. Watching Ken pace around the "oval" office as he was thinking up his next plan of attack. So many memories come to me at this time. David has lost his "wartime buddy" at figuring out what to do in the next crisis. Ken use to make my head hurt at these meetings, listing to the two of them coming up with ideas and then how to make it work. David learned alot from Ken. He will be sooo missed.
Please Barbara, we will always be here for you, and you know that we are just a few miles away.
Heather and Grant, your Daddy was a great man who was loved and I and David will miss his smile and humor and pacing. My heart goes out to all of you and your families. We love you.
