Matt and I were buddies from 1st grade thru high school. We shared many adventures growing up. Butterfly hunting along the railroad tracks, hiking thru the sewer lines from Oakday swimming pool to the river under NCR (to which I still tell stories about to this day), summer days swimming at Oakday, playing at Jane Newcomb park, Holy Angels basketball during junior high. I remember riding the city bus across town 2x a week for basketball practice with Matt and another passed away buddy Dave Kotlarik. I remember working at Oakday. I was a regular worker (groundskeeping, pool cleanup) and Matt had the glamourous job as a lifeguard. During our freshman and sophomore years at Alter, we walked across the park and another 3 blocks to catch the bus to Alter as that was the closest bus stop. I remember when Matt met Kathy and fell heads over heels in love with her. I am glad they had the time they had together as they were meant for each other. I gradually lost touch with Matt and Kathy after I joined the military and ended up in California. It saddens me to learn that he passed at such a young age and I did not even know until today, May 22nd, 2024 and read it in an Alter High School class update. I have and will always have fond memories of our time spent together as friends and the adventures we had together growing up.
